Oozing heritage and atmosphere, this restaurant pairs culinary innovation with industrial elegance

    By: Andrew McKenzie

On Phuket’s northern coast at Nai Yang beach just 5 minutes from the airport, a new culinary gem has emerged. Under the ownership of the Slate Phuket, a trendy 5-star tin-mine-inspired design hotel, (already famed for its Sunday brunch), Rivet is a new modern dining grill experience. The restaurant speaks for itself and their attention to detail transcends any one thing but applies to every part of the culinary warehouse. An intriguing fusion of industrial-chic interiors, and the heady aromas of an open-fired grill and smokehouse, that whisper of tomahawk steaks and local fresh fish catches. Rivet is poised to become a go-to spot for unforgettable flame-grilled food, just a road away from the idyllic Nai Yang beach.

    DESIGN SPOTLIGHT

Rivet has a visually stunning industrial-inspired aesthetic to create an elegant space connecting the restaurant to its home, Phuket. It tells a story featuring reclaimed materials with avant-garde designs to match. Exposed concrete floors and black steel furnishings provide the foundations of the design. As you explore the space, you’ll discover a fusion of history and innovation, with exposed brick walls telling tales of the past and dimmed Edison bulbs casting a warm, sepia glow on handcrafted wooden tables. A harmonious blend of nostalgia and modernity leaks into the menu and everything they do at Rivet.

CHEF NONG: THE FUEL TO THE FLAME

At the heart of Rivet’s culinary magic is the enigmatic Chef Nong, a rising star known for his youthful spirit and unwavering creativity. With each dish he crafts, Chef Nong invites you on a culinary odyssey that showcases the best of local and international flavours. His commitment to sourcing the finest ingredients, often from Phuket’s own bountiful shores, ensures that every bite is an exploration of taste and texture. Chef Nong’s artistry shines brightest when the open-fired grill and smokehouse come to life. The sizzle of premium cuts meeting the flames, and the aromatic infusion of smoky flavours— are the elements that make Rivet a paradise for meat connoisseurs. Yet, Chef Nong’s prowess extends far beyond the grill, o„ering a diverse menu that caters to every palate. The Golden Slow-Cooked Tomahawk is a feast for two that is the superstar of the show. The Australian grain-fed tomahawk is a melt-in-your-mouth masterpiece, that one actually gets the opportunity to cook at the table, subtly seasoned to allow the flavours of the beef to speak to you, this is an absolute diamond on the menu that carnivores should arrive in pairs to try. If alternatively, the local fresh seafood catches your fancy, all I can say is, ask for the ‘catch of the day’!

    SIGNATURE EVENTS

One of its most celebrated traditions is the monthly Sunday Brunch—an experience that has achieved legendary status among locals and travellers alike. A lavish spread that includes the likes of seafood on ice, succulent premium meats, and the pièce de résistance—a live lobster station. This is where indulgence knows no bounds, and every bite is a symphony of fresh flavours. But the innovation doesn’t stop. Rivet recently unveiled the BOLD brand, a series of events that emBody Original, Light-hearted, and Daring. These exclusive gatherings promise to redefine your perception of dining. The inaugural BOLD event, hosted in March 2023 at Rivet, featured a daring 5-course menu infused with cannabis—an experience that left diners both exhilarated and enchanted.

    MAKE THE PLAN

As the sun sets over Phuket, Rivet comes alive, inviting you to indulge in its culinary wonders. The dinner hours from 6 pm to 11 pm. are when this extraordinary dining journey begins. While the dress code is smart casual, Rivet’s allure lies in its ability to make any occasion special, whether it’s an intimate date night or a celebratory dinner with loved ones. To ensure you secure your place in this culinary haven, reservations are essential. Rivet awaits your presence, promising an evening that transcends the boundaries of taste and design. Come, be part of the story that is Rivet—a place where culinary innovation meets industrial elegance.
