On the Sound of the Gun – GO!
The 2024 Phuket King’s Cup Regatta, running from 30th November to 7th December, is Asia’s most prestigious yachting event. Established in 1987 to honour the 60th birthday of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej, it has grown to attract top racing sailors globally. The regatta features various classes, including keelboats, multihulls, and dinghies, racing along specially set courses off the south west of the island. Kata Beach is the epicentre of the event, with a great atmosphere, especially in the early morning as crews set off to their yachts moored in the bay, and later in the afternoon when they return after a hard day’s racing. A beach definitely worth visiting in the first week of December.
