A Serene Stay in the Shade of the SALA

Enjoy quiet luxury on the north of the Island, away from the (often) loud southern shores of Phuket, and experience the paradisial resort created to be a sanctuary, that has one going home feeling totally revitalised.

    By: Roger Osbourne

Nestled along the serene Mai Khao Beach in Phuket’s northwestern corner, the SALA Phuket Mai Khao Beach Resort offers a truly magical escape from the bustling world. This minimalist resort boasts 63 private pool villas, spacious rooms, world-class amenities, and a culinary blend of Thai and Western cuisine. Whether you’re seeking a romantic getaway or a family retreat, SALA Phuket caters to all your desires with its unique offerings.

WHERE – Mai Khao Beach, part of Sirinat National Park, provides an idyllic setting, free from hawkers and jet skis, ensuring a peaceful beach experience. This is ideal since the resort leads directly onto the beach. So thankfully no deckchairs are causing an eyesore on the beach, or jet skis ripping up a storm as they fly by, but rather a silent Mai Khao shoreline stretching north and south as far as you can see, just for you. The resort is conveniently located just a 20-minute taxi ride from Phuket International Airport, making it easily accessible, and in the area is the bustling Turtle Village which acts as its own retail and restaurant centre if you want to get out and experience some local shopping and eating – but otherwise, SALA has everything you need.

THE SALA STYLE – SALA Phuket impresses with its Sino-Portugese-inspired design, as seen in historical Phuket Town. The resort exudes an uncluttered sophistication and peaceful setting, with villas situated close together but cleverly separated by high walls and tree-lined paths, there is a natural sort of immersion in green where you sometimes lose your path in the silent tranquility of it all, and natural walls of privacy enclose you within nature and your own private pool villa sanctuary. The ambience transitions from private villa gardens to open, inviting, spaces seamlessly. Impeccable service and amenities are the hallmark of SALA Phuket, with staff dressed in ethereal white cotton, ready to attend to your every need. The resort features two rectangular pools, including a shallow children’s area, set against a lush lawn leading to the beach. For active guests, paddleboards, kayaks, and complimentary bicycles are available, or get stuck in with their Muay Thai classes out on the private beach, if that sounds too fast-paced for you, slow it all down and practice the mindful ancient art of Yoga at sunset on the beach. The SALA’s award-winning Spa offers a variety of rejuvenating treatments from the school of Ancient Southeast Asian traditions. As well they have a state of the art fitness centre and business facilities if those are necessities for your trip.

THE STAY – The resort’s rooms are designed for comfort and relaxation. The standard balcony rooms are spacious and bright, offering essential amenities. However, the true highlights are the 63 pool villas. These spacious, romantic havens boast double beds, outdoor showers, large tubs overlooking private pools, and high walls for ultimate privacy. This 619 sqm of luxury is all you need to enjoy your stay. Top-of-the-range flat-screen TVs, private pools with space to sunbathe, and more in these contemporary, and sleek villas. If you are there either as a family or a couple, these villas will provide you with the ultimate value for money haven. Breakfast is included and of course, WiFi is complimentary

DINING – SALA Phuket’s dining options are a culinary delight. The SALA Restaurant, located next to the pools, offers a mix of Thai and Western dishes, with rooftop dining offering breathtaking sunset views. Must-try dishes include the Beef Cheek Massaman and their twice-cooked crispy pork belly by Chef Tony. Alternatively, if you’re looking for something a bit more casual I couldn’t recommend more highly, sitting at a table on the sandy shore, and ordering a delicious bowl of authentic Asian noodles. Delicious, light, value for money is amazing, refreshing with flavours to cater to any taste, in the perfect setting for it, you just have to sit out there and give them a go.

    MUST TRY HIGHLIGHTS –

Excursions: SALA Phuket leverages its northern locale by providing easy access to UNESCO Heritage Phang Nga Bay and its stunning scenery. Long tail boat adventures to James Bond Island, Koh Panyi floating village, Lawa Island, and Naka Island offer unforgettable experiences. SALA Spa: The resort’s award-winning spa is a haven of relaxation, offering treatments by Master Phimwanida Photun, a renowned expert in Thai Lanna Heritage massage techniques.

SALA Farm: The newly launched SALA Farm Life Project integrates sustainability into the resort’s culinary offerings, with a specific design to reduce waste and provide organic delights, whilst reducing their carbon footprint. Guests can explore the farm, join cooking classes, and enjoy fresh, organic ingredients in their meals, which are the same hyper-local ingredients creating all the fresh flavours of the restaurant’s menu.

FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY – While the resort caters to couples with its romantic ambience, families are also welcome. Rooms and villas can accommodate children, and extra beds are available upon request.

An immersive stay at The SALA Phuket Mai KHao, the resort is a hidden gem in Phuket, intentionally, they don’t want the rowdy clientele from the party beaches, they can stay further south. SALA Phuket wants those who appreciate nature, harmony, and the time to switch off and unwind – time with loved ones. Their offerings are a perfect blend of romance and family-friendly features. Its stunning pool villas, exceptional dining, world-class spa, and exciting excursions make it an ideal destination for both couples seeking a romantic escape and families looking for a tranquil retreat. Whether you’re exploring the scenic wonders of Phang Nga Bay, indulging in a rejuvenating spa treatment, or savouring delectable cuisine, SALA Phuket promises an unforgettable experience in paradise.
