For an unforgettable culinary experience during your holiday, particularly if you have something to celebrate, you cannot beat the Friday night-themed dinner at SILK Restaurant & Bar in Kamala

SILK captures the vibrant flavours of central Thai cuisine every Friday at a Taste of Siam evening, where the culinary team at SILK consistently delivers a fantastic dining experience. We recently had the pleasure of visiting SILK when my husband surprised me with a romantic night out for our 10th wedding anniversary.

As it was set up as a surprise, I only knew that we were going to spend the evening at a “fine casual” restaurant in Kamala, the bay south of where we were staying in Surin. The moment we entered the restaurant, we were elevated above the dining area and spectacular pool deck outside. Quite an entrance!

SILK is renowned as one of Phuket’s top-rated global cuisine restaurants and is part of Andara Resort and Villas, nestled on the hillside in the upscale residential area known as ‘Millionaires Mile.’

On Friday evenings, SILK offers the Taste of Siam night, helmed by Chef Skye and her team. This culinary event showcases perfectly cooked Thai dishes from the central region of Thailand, accompanied by live entertainment.

As we arrived, we were met with a heartfelt welcome from the friendly staff, elegantly adorned in traditional attire, perfectly capturing the essence and warmth of Thailand.

The main restaurant was filled with the aromatic flavours that have made Thai cuisine famous: lemongrass, galangal, lime, coriander, sweet Thai basil, and garlic. These scents infused the air, creating a truly enticing atmosphere.

Since it was a pleasant Andaman evening, we chose to dine outside by the pool. The setup included food stations and main courses served at the table. At around 8 p.m., the atmosphere transformed with the beats of a traditional Thai barrel drum, known as the taphon. This signalled the arrival of dancers who performed the dramatic Menora, a folk dance originating from southern Thailand. The intricate costumes they wore must have taken hours to prepare!

Now, let’s talk about the food. I opted for the tom yum goong soup, which had a delightful kick to it. The tiger prawns in the soup were sizable and incredibly tender. Meanwhile, my husband indulged in a generous portion of massaman kae (lamb), accompanied by fragrant jasmine rice.

I mustn’t forget to mention the cocktails we enjoyed upon arrival. SILK has garnered quite a reputation for its wonderful and imaginative cocktails, skilfully crafted by leading mixologist, Khun Bella. We were pleasantly surprised to find a delightful welcome drink included in the price and enjoyed the special craft cocktail of the evening. To celebrate our anniversary, we indulged in a bottle of champagne from the reasonably priced wine list.

The price for the Taste of Siam dinner is 1,950++ THB /person, including one welcome drink. Kids under 12 yrs. are half-price, and under 6 are complimentary. And the Resort’s Kids Club stays open until 9 pm especially on Friday, and Wednesday evenings too.

We also discovered that SILK offers a Steak Affairs evening every Wednesday, which immediately caught my husband’s attention with a wonderful selection of prime beef cuts., starting from THB1,800+. In addition to its elevated Thai cuisine, SILK features global delights prepared by talented Italian and Australian chefs. From wood-fired pizzas to handmade pasta, fresh seafood, and grilled meats, the diverse menu caters to a range of culinary preferences. And yes, we did return to SILK with our children for Steak Affairs, but that’s a story for another time!

I can honestly say that the Taste of Siam evening was the highlight of our holiday. Don’t tell my husband, but he made an excellent choice…I might just have to stick with him for another ten years! Sitting under the stars and being serenaded by live local music — who said romance is dead?
